MadamPresident,Mr.Secretary-General,Excellencies,ladiesandgentlemen,

Istandbeforeyou,deeplytouchedandinspiredbyyourgenerouswordsofcongratulationsandencouragement.WithboundlessgratitudefortheconfidenceplacedinmebytheMemberStates,andwithanunswervingresolvetohonorthattrust,Ihumblyaccepttheappointmentasthe8thSecretary-GeneralofthisgreatOrganization,ourUnitedNations.IwishtoextendmydeepestrespectandappreciationtoalltheleadersandpeoplesoftheMemberStatesfortheirstrongsupport.

TheUNisneedednowmorethaneverbefore.TheUN’scoremissioninthepreviouscenturywastokeepcountriesfromfightingeachother.Inthenewcentury,thedefiningmandateistostrengthentheinter-statesystemsothathumanitymaybebetterservedamidstnewchallenges.Weneedcompetentandresponsiblestatestomeettheneedsof“Wethepeople”forwhomtheUNwascreated.Andtheworld’speoplewillnotbefullyservedunlesspeace,developmentandhumanrights,thethreepillarsoftheUN,areadvancedtogetherwithequalvigor.

IearnestlyhopethatyoungboysandgirlsoftodaywillgrowupknowingthattheUNisworkinghardtobuildabetterfutureforthem.AsSecretary-General,Iwillembracetheirhopesandheartheirappeals.Iamanoptimist,andIamfullofhopeaboutthefutureofourglobalOrganization.LetusworktogetherforaUNthatcandelivermoreandbetter.

主席女士、秘書長先生、諸位閣下、女士們、先生們：

站在你們面前，我為你們那祝賀與鼓勵的慷慨話語而深深感動，各成員國給予了我信心，我對此不盡感激，我將堅定不移地尊重這份信任，謙恭地接受這一任務，成為聯合國這一偉大組織的第八任秘書長。我希望向各成員國的領導和人民致以最誠摯的敬意，并感謝他們對我的強有力的支持。

聯合國比以往任何時候都顯得更重要。在上一個世紀，聯合國的核心任務是防止國與國之間的沖突斗爭。在新世紀里，聯合國最主要的任務就是在新的挑戰(zhàn)之下，加強國際秩序以更好地服務于人類。我們需要有能力的、有責任感的國家來攜手滿足“我聯合國人民”的需求，聯合國正是為這些人群而創(chuàng)立的。只有當和平、發(fā)展、人權這聯合國的三大支柱都能得到同樣積極的推進時，我們才能充分地為世界人民服務。

我誠摯地希望今天的年輕一代能茁壯成長，并知道聯合國正努力為他們創(chuàng)造更加美好的未來。作為秘書長，我將接納他們的愿望，聆聽他們的需要。我是一個樂觀的人，我對我們這一全球組織的未來充滿希望。讓我們一起努力，讓聯合國可以作出更多更好的貢獻。
