THEPRESIDENT:Goodmorning.Asfamiliesacrossthecountryenjoythesummer,Americanscanbeoptimisticaboutoureconomicfuture.Inthepastfouryears,oureconomyhasbeenthroughalot:wefacedastockmarketdecline,arecession,corporatescandals,anattackonourhomeland,andthedemandsofanongoingwaronterror.

TogrowtheeconomyandhelpAmericanfamilies,weactedbypassingthelargesttaxreliefinageneration.Andtoday,thankstothetaxreliefandtheeffortsofAmerica''''sworkersandentrepreneurs,oureconomyisstrongandgrowingstronger.

Thispastweek,welearnedthatAmericaaddedover200,000newjobsinJuly.SinceMayof2003,we''''veaddednearly4millionnewjobs.Theunemploymentrateisdownto5percent,belowtheaverageofthe1970s,1980sand1990s.AndmoreAmericansareworkingtodaythaneverbeforeinournation''''shistory.

Recenteconomicreportsshowthatoureconomyisgrowingfasterthananyothermajorindustrializednation.Smallbusinessesareflourishing.Workersaretakinghomemoreofwhattheyearn.Realdisposablepersonalincomehasgrownbyover12percentsincetheendof2000.Inflationislowandmortgageratesarelow.Andoverthepastyear,thehomeownershiprateinAmericahasreachedrecordlevels.

ThetaxreliefstimulatedeconomicvitalityandgrowthandithashelpedincreaserevenuestotheTreasury.T公務員之家版權所有heincreasedrevenuesandourspendingrestrainthaveledtogoodprogressinreducingthefederaldeficit.Lastmonthwelearnedthatthedeficitisnowprojectedtobe$94billionlessthanpreviouslyexpected.Isetagoalofcuttingthedeficitinhalfby2009,andweareaheadofpacetomeetthatgoal.

TocontinuecreatingjobsandtoensurethatourprosperityreacheseverycornerofAmerica,we''''reopeningmarketsabroadforourgoodsandservices.Thispastweek,IwasproudtosigntheCentralAmerican-DominicanRepublicFreeTradeAgreement.ThishistoricagreementwillleveltheplayingfieldforAmerica''''sworkersandfarmers,andopenupamarketof44millioncustomersforproductsmadeintheUnitedStates.

Tokeepoureconomygrowingwealsoneedaffordable,reliablesuppliesofenergy.NextweekinNewMexico,I''''llsignabipartisanenergybillthatencouragesconservation,expandsdomesticproductioninenvironmentallysensitiveways,diversifiesourenergysupply,modernizesourelectricitygridandmakesAmericalessdependentonforeignsourcesofenergy.AndnextWednesdayinIllinois,I''''llsignahighwaybillthatwillimprovethesafetyofourroads,strengthenourtransportationinfrastructureandcreategoodjobs.

Oureconomyisstrong,yetIwillnotbesatisfieduntileveryAmericanwhowantstoworkcanfindajob.SothiscomingTuesdayIwillmeetwithmyeconomicteaminTexastodiscussouragendatokeeptheeconomymovingforward.AsCongressconsidersappropriationsbillsthisfall,wewillworkwiththeHouseandtheSenatetoensurethattaxpayerdollarsarespentwisely,ornotatall.

Weneedtomakethetaxreliefpermanent,endthedeathtaxforever,andmakeourtaxcodesimpler,fairerandmorepro-growth.We''''llcontinueworkingonSocialSecurityreform.SocialSecurityissoundfortoday''''sseniors,butthere''''saholeinthesafetynetforouryoungerworkers,soI''''llworkwiththeCongresstostrengthenSocialSecurityforourchildrenandgrandchildren.I''''llcontinuetopressforlegalreformtoprotectsmallbusinesses,doctorsandhospitalsfromjunklawsuits.AndwewillworktomakehealthcaremoreaffordableandaccessibleforallAmericans.
